Bikram Yoga

Last night I attended a Bikram Yoga class in Alexandria. My good chum asked me to go with her and I figured I may as well try a different style of yoga to make up for the fact that I am missing two yoga classes while I am on the road. Holy cow. I knew it would be hot, but I didn’t think it would bother my system as much as it did. Part of it was my fault for not eating enough during the day to really give my body the fuel it needed for this kind of intense work out. There were times that I was greatly concerned I was going to hurl. So I would sit down and cool off a bit and then get back into the poses. Some of the things the instructor was telling us to do like locking your knees sounded very counter intuitive to me. Especially with my body already a little upset I didn’t want to lock my knees and risk passing out. I very much missed the styles of yoga that I am familiar with, that have lots of modifications for the poses and that really expect you to just be where you are. I also didn’t care for the instructor. Ahh well. I definitely got a work out. I was covered in sweat and roasting by the time I got out from the 90 min class. I can now cross it off my list as having tried it and can comfortably go back to my yoga classes knowing what I am not missing. ;) Plus they didn’t have any of the fun inversions! I love inversions. :D

I will say the best part of the class though was getting to hang out with a dear friend that I haven’t seen in a while since we are both serendipitously in the same city right now! :)

Yoga and Windows XP update

So on the agenda for this week – wash my stanky stanky yoga mat. I also need to wash those feet socks. I meant to start laundry this morning but the change in temperatures is making me sleepy so my socks weren’t clean in time for class. When I went to do a bridge one of my feet actually slipped out from under me and I may have uttered sh*t. Soo…yeah. I did a rather nice bridge off the slippery mat and just on the gym floor. I really do like the way I feel when I do yoga. Especially when everything kind of “snap, crackle, pops” into place. My current instructor is also very pro Pilates so she has us doing some Pilates moves that focus on the core. Oy! It’s not a giant secret that my core is totally out of whack. That’s pretty much why I started yoga to begin with. I talked to her after class about what I can do to build up to some of the leg movements.

When I got home from yoga the boy was stuck on installing his new hard drive that showed up today. I came to his rescue by mashing a bunch of buttons until the computer bent to my will and finally recognized his hard drive. Now it’s partitioning so it can install Windows XP. Soooo much fun. :) Hopefully soon his computer will be up and running and this laptop will be mine, all mine, once again. :D

Have a great night!

Back in the groove

Tonight’s yoga really started to feel like my body knew where it wanted to head back to. I was able to keep up for more of the class and all the familiar snap crackle and pops have returned. I am not back to where I was before the move but I am confident by the end of this round of classes I will be very close. Since I have super sweaty feet I decided that I should finally try out the awesome yoga socks that KMAKrafts got for me during our yoga swap over the summer. They were really helpful for poses like downward dog and the various lunges. Normally in those poses my feet start to slide down the mat which doesn’t so much help me with holding poses. :) I will definitely have to make sure I wear these for every class. I also need to wash my stinky stinky mat! Streeeeeetch. Ahh my back feels good. Namaste!

Yoga socks!

Yoga Update

I may have been a bad yogi and skipped last week. I have lately taken to skipping out on events and activities when I am particularly crabby. It works well because I get a lot of cleaning done and I don’t accidentally bite the heads off people who would be caught unaware. The boy, well he’s accustomed to it. ;) At any rate, this time I was one of the 5 brave souls who battled the weather (er, ya know, drove in the snow safely) to go to class. It was really nice and my body seemed to stretch more easily this week. The only problem I seem to be having is hand placement. I feel like I am putting a lot of strain on my wrist but I am not sure what to do about it. But, I feeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeel good. So I am happy. :D Now, I think I may curl up into bed and finish that book.

Tuesday is for Yoga

Today was my first Tuesday back at yoga. During the holidays my body started screaming something awful at me and my maternal lineage. So I acquiesed and went hunting for yoga classes again. This time I was able to slide into a class at our local Rec Center. The last two times I have checked it was full already and the other studio in the area is rather pricey. Well not pricey for yoga but about double what I paid when we lived in Western Ohio. I would love to say it felt great to stretch out and get back into the swing of things but oy have I been away too long ;) and silly me, jumping into an advanced class of a genre I am unfamiliar with. I bet my body will be much happier though come my birthday next month. Once I have settled into the routine and stretched the body some more. I think I am overdue for getting into a home practice. Maybe these teaser classes will kick my internal system into gear and I will have impromptu home sessions again. I think I would like to do some more crow, dancer and bridge poses. Oh and the one with the feet in the air and then over my head. Anywho. Cheerio. Go buy your tickets for Sticks N Stitches. Love, me. :)
