When we meant to Maryland Sheep & Wool this year the boy found some yarn that he rather liked. It happened to be on pretty good sale - a discontinued “boring” color. Score one for the home team! So I went ahead and bought all they had left (6 balls). Then when we got back home I ordered 2 more balls from WEBS to ensure that I had enough yarn for his long torso. As of 22.30 tonight the whole body is knit and all I have left is to pick up and knit the sleeves. I cast it on Sunday evening.
Guess who’s a rather happy girl? And the even happier boy? Well he’s modeling the sweater for you:
Taken after work. He’s hiding from the camera.

And now he’s sticking his rump out. The back and front are now connected and the neck is bound off.
Oh yes and a snippet of last night’s conversation as I was measuring out his sweater:
the boy: I am glad you found knitting. Otherwise you would probably drive me crazy.
me: I wish you would find a hobby.
I knew there were was going to be a good bit of car time while the boy and I were traveling to/from/around New York. I finished up a Christmas gift on our way to New York (well in the hotel that evening) and then I swatched for Liesl the long. I cast it on and then didn’t pull it out of the bag during a couple of our shorter car trips. I pulled it back out on our drives to and home from Canada. Then last night I worked on it at knit night and once I got home until I finished the body. All that I have left right now is the sleeves. It would be awesome if I could finish it tonight. It turns out that the sleeves are more finicky than I would have thought. I only have circular 7mm needles so I am having to magic loop the sleeves. Here’s a picture of my current progress.

PS - When knitting a sleeve, be sure to pick up the stitches on the correct side of the sleeve…unless you really want a purled sleeve with a stockinette body… don’t ask me how I know…

What is this? It’s Wednesday AND I am updating the blog AND I have a WIP to show you? Will wonders never cease? Ok enough of the tom foolery. On to the photos:.

Full length (ish) shot.

Check out the rockin stitch markers. The green ones were made by LittleMsMarker on Etsy. Check out her site. The others were made by my chum Bunnysquirrel. They spell knit when they are all there together.

You can begin to see the patterning here. I think the recipient will like this mucho.
I managed to finish the fronts of my sweater this morning. This project is just moving right along. Perhaps there is something to this idea that not everything has to be knit in fingering weight…and that when you use worsted weight it goes faster! (Novel and shocking I know!) I cast on for the sleeves this morning and got one row in before it was time to head to work. Hopefully there will be some more progress on them tonight.
Have a good day!

The fronts of the sweater as modeled by the hotel bed.

The sleeves, cast on.
PS - I love this yarn, but I hate the way it’s wound. I couldn’t find the stupid end last night and ended up making a big mess (thankfully no knots!) and had to ball the whole thing as you see above…I swear the next bit I have to use will be caked before being added in to the item.

I have finally finished the back of my sweater. Alas, I kept thinking I was nearing the end and then realizing that there was one more instruction. So about 10 inches or so later I am done.
I think it looks great. Tomorrow I will learn how to not twist my stitches.

This is the minimalist cardigan from IK Fall 2007 knit in moss stitch.
Note: I have added a new photo feature to my blog. You can click on the pictures to make them bigger.
