Tonight the boy ran off to watch our Bobcats play for the MAC championship. Alas, we are not champions this year. I took the opportunity to spend the evening in with my lovely Bearfoot mittens. Of which, I am now around the point of dividing for the thumb and hand. How did I get so much knitting done you ask? I certainly wasn’t assisted by that whole bit where I didn’t read the pattern clearly and increased at double the rate from the thumb gusset causing me to have to rip out round about 8 rows. No, it was the wonder of Netflix and their Instant queue. I may have spent the evening with The Princess Diaries and Bridget Jones’ Diary. ~As an aside, did you know that Moaning Myrtle is one of Bridget’s single friends? I think I shall always recognize that voice instantly. Too ironic that she was crying in the ladies bathroom.~ There was a third movie that I had started to watch tonight but round about 1 min 30 sec into the movie I realized that I wasn’t going to be able to make it. Just wasn’t my style. Now I am off to split the thumb from the hand before I go to sleep. Finishing Party tom’w!

Today the boy decided to attend a tailgate if you will for the local Big Ten team. Upon leaving the house he was clad in all red, however he was wearing a NASCAR shirt (Talladega) and a Hockey ball cap (Blue Jackets but in red). I realized that perhaps it was time that he get a shirt for the local Big Ten football team what wasn’t associated with their loss in the post season. While he attended the football game tailgating party a friend of mine and I headed to one of the cute little towns nearby for some retail therapy. I told myself that if I could find a reasonably priced shirt I would snag one for him. So off we headed up to the little town. We had a great Greek lunch followed by a trip to the outdoors shop across the street. We headed in and the sign said Big Ten gear upstairs. So we wandered up there and I found a display with fairly inexpensively priced shirts. Now the boy has a very long torso. I know such things because A. a lot of his shirts ride up in the back because they simply aren’t long enough and B. I may have sewn him a dress shirt a couple of years ago. I grabbed a shirt and debated whether the L is going to be long enough to cover his torso. When I asked my friend what she thought about the length, I suddenly found myself saying things like oh he needs shirts that are at least 27″ long. (who knows these things?) We’re trying to decide if this will work when it dawns on me that I have a tape measure in my bag. I whip out my tape measure and get her to hold the shirt up. It was about 28″ or so from the shoulder seam to the hem. I determined the shirt to be long enough and made my purchase.

We then mosied about to some other shops in the little town. I bought a cute little grown up wallet and we got some awesome custard. Then it was time to head home. Once the boy made it back to our house after his exciting foray into bus riding he found his new team shirt laying on the bed waiting for him. I asked him to try it on so I could double check the length. And what do you know? The shirt fit. So the moral of the story is “of course it’s normal to carry a tape measure around with you all the time. It just might help you find a garment for a loved one.” Although, I guess that requires knowing things as obscure as how long their back waist length is. Have you ever found yourself using obscure knowledge to buy gifts for a loved one?

PS – Happy Anniversary honey! It’s been 5 great years. Just one more and we can take this show on the road!

*static*

Hello! It’s high time I break the radio silence. It seems I may be forming a pattern which involves taking June and July off from blogging and a good portion of July from knitting. Works for me. I have missed summer break all these hard, laborious years since I became a full fledged, tax paying adult. This week I have been working on a super adult type decision. A view of the decision making process is below.

What to knit next and which pattern to go with which yarn? I am sure you didn’t expect anything else. Oh and the boy says it looks like I am building a yarn castle. I am not sure what type of yarn invasion he is expecting but I would be pleased with the kind that gives me fancy pants yarn! Talk to you all soon!

Yesterday we drove up to the Cleveland area to visit my grandmother since we hadn’t seen her in a little bit. We had a lovely visit, hung out, I knit like a mad woman and then we went to Friendly’s for dinner. Actually before dinner, the boy and my Uncle decided to hang the world’s largest American flag on my grandmother’s house. The flag was somewhere around 9 ft x 5 ft in size. Which is a huge flag.

After dinner we drove into Cleveland (with Grandma in tow) to see the closing night of my Uncle’s latest play. I budgeted some extra travel time to compensate for dinner going long, getting lost and possibly running into a closed bridge on the main route into town. Foruntately they had finished moving that bridge a couple hours earlier so the bridge was open. Of course all my extra travel time buffer meant we showed up about two hours before curtain. Woops!

The play is titled Marriage Play. It’s a two person act and was hysterical. We really enjoyed watching it and both actors were great (although I may be biased)! They’d been runing this play about 6 weeks and it got great reviews. After the play we headed out to the pub for a few and then booked it home. We really do need to go see more of my uncle’s plays in the future.

My town has this wonderful little thing that runs during the summer called Fourth Fridays. On the fourth Friday of each month the shops stay open until 9pm and there is a bit of a street fair going on. The boy and I had plans to head up there tonight after eating our meal. Just as we were sitting down to eat my friend called to inform me of some sort of street fair going on in my town and isn’t this just my kind of thing? I told her yes indeed it is and that we would be up just as soon as we finished eating. So we met up with my chum and her friend and wandered around for the evening. I found a lady selling handmade Alpaca goods. She was lovely to chat with. We also found a sailing group who was giving out free sailing rides tom’w. Alas we will be out of town and I won’t be able to take advantage of the sailboat rides. I need to add Fourth Fridays to my calendar this year so that we don’t accidentally miss it on weekends that we are actually in town.

This morning we went to church with some friends and then out to breakfast. It was fun to chat with them about their wedding next spring. After that we didn’t have much to do today so we just drove around exploring. We found an estate I want to go visit to see the possibility of hosting an event there. So that was fun.

Then in the afternoon I went to pick up my best friend at the airport. She and I hung out for awhile ate some bar food and had a beer. It was quite lovely and I got to do a brain dump about wedding plans. Once I arrived back home I worked on my current shawl. It was really nice to just relax and have some down time today. Haven’t had any in awhile.

I managed to drag my dupa out of bed this morning and sew the bindings onto two blankets before the power went out. The power conveniently came back on just in time for me to go to work. After work I headed to the monthly knit night at The Merc where I finished the repeat on the wrap that no longer exists. It was pretty unanimous that the wrap and the yarn did not like one another. So I ripped it out. I then took advantage of the giant ball winder the shop has and re wound my 440 yd skein of yarn. I will find a suitable project for this yarn some day.

Once back home the boy and I decided to go for a walk. We walked to the park but alas there were children on the swings so no swinging for us. As we were walking I suddenly realized a ton of our neighbors own Hondas. I counted 20 Hondas during our walk. Also many of the homes with Hondas had two, go figure. The walk was nice and I would really like for us to try and do that more often.

Upon returning home it was definitely time for ice cream. I took my ice cream upstairs to finish the sewing and the boy headed to the basement. I am pleased to say that about 22:30 I had completed all three blankets that I wanted to get done for this weekend. Now the question is, is it odd to give someone three identical baby blankets? Hmm. I shall ponder this as I drift off to slumber land.

Today’s Earth Day was moderately productive around here. We will ignore the fairly large amounts of laundry I did today getting fabrics pre-washed for sewing this weekend. After work I went out to dinner with a chum and then got home a bit earlier than normal so I set to work on my bit of our yard. I have been debating building a compost bin for our backyard for awhile now so I asked the boy to come out and help me pick out a spot. I have to hand it to him he did pick out a rather excellent spot, hopefully I can get it started soon.

After that I set out Rounding Up the grass in the cracks of the sidewalk. I also winced at the dandelions that have some how sprung up in our yard. I will probably spread some weed and feed this weekend as it will be warm enough and there is no rain forecast. (Oh thanks for the reminder, the gutter topper people are coming tomorrow!) We also picked out which flower bed will be used as our garden so now it’s on me to get those plants dug up and replanted elsewhere. I just need to pick a spot to transplant them to.

Lastly we dug out the seeds. I got really excited about growing vegetables the other week and we haven’t done anything with the seeds we bought. So we got out the little seed starters and went about planting the seeds that need a bit of time growing indoors before planting outdoors. The other seeds we kind of missed the window on growing them indoors first but it’s ok because they will be ready for planting outside very soon. Actually, pretty much as soon as we can get the flower/garden bed ready. Hopefully something will come of these plantings and we won’t have lots of dead plants on our hands this year. *fingers crossed*
