Tonight the boy ran off to watch our Bobcats play for the MAC championship. Alas, we are not champions this year. I took the opportunity to spend the evening in with my lovely Bearfoot mittens. Of which, I am now around the point of dividing for the thumb and hand. How did I get so much knitting done you ask? I certainly wasn’t assisted by that whole bit where I didn’t read the pattern clearly and increased at double the rate from the thumb gusset causing me to have to rip out round about 8 rows. No, it was the wonder of Netflix and their Instant queue. I may have spent the evening with The Princess Diaries and Bridget Jones’ Diary. ~As an aside, did you know that Moaning Myrtle is one of Bridget’s single friends? I think I shall always recognize that voice instantly. Too ironic that she was crying in the ladies bathroom.~ There was a third movie that I had started to watch tonight but round about 1 min 30 sec into the movie I realized that I wasn’t going to be able to make it. Just wasn’t my style. Now I am off to split the thumb from the hand before I go to sleep. Finishing Party tom’w!

Today the boy decided to attend a tailgate if you will for the local Big Ten team. Upon leaving the house he was clad in all red, however he was wearing a NASCAR shirt (Talladega) and a Hockey ball cap (Blue Jackets but in red). I realized that perhaps it was time that he get a shirt for the local Big Ten football team what wasn’t associated with their loss in the post season. While he attended the football game tailgating party a friend of mine and I headed to one of the cute little towns nearby for some retail therapy. I told myself that if I could find a reasonably priced shirt I would snag one for him. So off we headed up to the little town. We had a great Greek lunch followed by a trip to the outdoors shop across the street. We headed in and the sign said Big Ten gear upstairs. So we wandered up there and I found a display with fairly inexpensively priced shirts. Now the boy has a very long torso. I know such things because A. a lot of his shirts ride up in the back because they simply aren’t long enough and B. I may have sewn him a dress shirt a couple of years ago. I grabbed a shirt and debated whether the L is going to be long enough to cover his torso. When I asked my friend what she thought about the length, I suddenly found myself saying things like oh he needs shirts that are at least 27″ long. (who knows these things?) We’re trying to decide if this will work when it dawns on me that I have a tape measure in my bag. I whip out my tape measure and get her to hold the shirt up. It was about 28″ or so from the shoulder seam to the hem. I determined the shirt to be long enough and made my purchase.
We then mosied about to some other shops in the little town. I bought a cute little grown up wallet and we got some awesome custard. Then it was time to head home. Once the boy made it back to our house after his exciting foray into bus riding he found his new team shirt laying on the bed waiting for him. I asked him to try it on so I could double check the length. And what do you know? The shirt fit.
So the moral of the story is “of course it’s normal to carry a tape measure around with you all the time. It just might help you find a garment for a loved one.” Although, I guess that requires knowing things as obscure as how long their back waist length is.
Have you ever found yourself using obscure knowledge to buy gifts for a loved one?
PS – Happy Anniversary honey! It’s been 5 great years. Just one more and we can take this show on the road!

Hello! It’s high time I break the radio silence. It seems I may be forming a pattern which involves taking June and July off from blogging and a good portion of July from knitting. Works for me. I have missed summer break all these hard, laborious years since I became a full fledged, tax paying adult. This week I have been working on a super adult type decision. A view of the decision making process is below.
What to knit next and which pattern to go with which yarn? I am sure you didn’t expect anything else.
Oh and the boy says it looks like I am building a yarn castle. I am not sure what type of yarn invasion he is expecting but I would be pleased with the kind that gives me fancy pants yarn! Talk to you all soon!

Yesterday we drove up to the Cleveland area to visit my grandmother since we hadn’t seen her in a little bit. We had a lovely visit, hung out, I knit like a mad woman and then we went to Friendly’s for dinner. Actually before dinner, the boy and my Uncle decided to hang the world’s largest American flag on my grandmother’s house. The flag was somewhere around 9 ft x 5 ft in size. Which is a huge flag.
After dinner we drove into Cleveland (with Grandma in tow) to see the closing night of my Uncle’s latest play. I budgeted some extra travel time to compensate for dinner going long, getting lost and possibly running into a closed bridge on the main route into town. Foruntately they had finished moving that bridge a couple hours earlier so the bridge was open. Of course all my extra travel time buffer meant we showed up about two hours before curtain. Woops!
The play is titled Marriage Play. It’s a two person act and was hysterical. We really enjoyed watching it and both actors were great (although I may be biased)! They’d been runing this play about 6 weeks and it got great reviews. After the play we headed out to the pub for a few and then booked it home. We really do need to go see more of my uncle’s plays in the future.
