Long live ice cream and the gelateria

Today the most magnificient thing happened. I ordered something entirely in German, I got what I asked for and it tasted wonderful. :) Time for a happy dance.

Oftentimes I order in a pidgin German/English hand gesture manner and get something that tastes good but isn’t always what I was expecting. ;)

German Sushi!

It may not sound like a splendid idea but boy was it ever! As I mentioned the city I come to over here in Germany is on a very large lake so there is lots of local fresh fish. The three of us traveling on this trip are all big fans of sushi so we decided to head to the local sushi joint. I am always a bit leery when I go to a new sushi joint but this one was definitely bustling when we arrived. They have a fairly extensive non sushi menu so it’s a good place if people aren’t willing to eat sushi with you. :) As for the sushi, have you ever tried to order in 3 languages? It was funny because the menu was in Japanese and German and then we were trying to translate some of the German words back into English to make sure we were getting the fish we wanted. It all worked out in the end. I ordered some miso soup. It was a little cloudier than I am accustomed to but it was good.

The bit that surprised me the most though was the California roll. It was no where near the kind of hard and flavorless California rolls we get over here. Soo yummy! :) Too bad I didn’t get a picture of that. We were all stuffed by the end although I probably could have eaten more. :D Oh and here’s a pic of my colleague’s Pils.

Sailing in Konstanz

One of our clients has a sailboat on Lake Konstanz, the very large lake here that borders at least 3 countries. He suggested that today would be a great day for sailing and well who are we to argue? ;) It was wonderful! We spent about 4 hours out on the water and then we came back into the harbour and spent another hour drinking champagne and chatting. You will get no complaints for me. :) Pictures of all the fun are below. The fancy pants shoes we’re wearing are the shoes we bought to wear on the boat. It turns out you have to wear white sole shoes on sailboats or you risk scratching up the boat. I am sure you can see from the pictures what a beautiful day it was to be out sailing. Too bad I can’t do this on all of my trips here! :D

Day Rooms

One of the best parts about this trip to Germany is the fact that my supervisor deemed it necessary to rent us day rooms at the Zurich Airport. We arrived too early to check into our hotel in Konstanz and we were a bit too exhausted to go straight into the office so she rented us these phenomenal little rooms. Each room contains a bed, sink, tv and towels so you can sleep, watch TV and shower. It was just wonderful. I passed out in my bed then woke up took a shower changed into some work clothes and we were on our way. The lady who was running registration for the day rooms even called to check on our luggage so that once we made it to baggage claim all our luggage was on a cart neatly waiting for us. I give a giant two thumbs up to anyone ever traveling to Zurich who is contemplating renting a day room. It’s totally worth the money to keep your sanity. :D

Home sweet home

I am home from a very busy and wonderful weekend at Maryland Sheep and Wool. I didn’t have much internet access while I was there so now I have a fair bit of catching up to do. More updates to come. For now though I am going to relax and hang with the boy. Tomorrow afternoon I get to hop on a plane to Germany for work again. I may be a little bit tired when I get home next week! Especially since May is always a super busy month in my life. Have a great night everyone! :)
