Things I accomplished today and/or have going on. (What an awesome lead in…)

So at the gentle nudging of a member of the Mid Ohio Knitting guild I created an event page on Ravelry for Sticks N Stitches. I can’t believe I forgot to do that! You can find the page here. That should be a much more effective way for me to get an idea of attendance levels.

I have a napping boy and dog on the couch. It’s pretty cute.

Karaoke is in store tonight to amuse the Iowan who is in town for the holidays.

I also need to set about looking at stitch dictionaries but I am feeling rather lazy.

Ravelry has new sorting features for stash yarns. I love it. I also love looking at my stash by color because well for some strange reason I just love my color sense! Shocking I am sure Not to mention all the awesome yellows I found recently are all at the top of my page saying “hello good morning it’s a beautiful cheery day!”

I managed to locate the recipe for dinner rolls for Thanksgiving dinner Thursday at the in-laws. They look so delicious. (the rolls not my in-laws!)

There are 6 completed repeats on the Christmas knitting I am working on. I think there may be 15 repeats total. We shall see. I am only knitting until I run out of yarn. I would like to get this finished this week. Thankfully there will be some car trips and oh that’s right a four day weekend!!!

I have potentially 3 more knitting projects and a crochet project to be done before Christmas. Anyone taking bets on whether I will finish?

The boy made dinner tonight. Potato and double corn chowder in bread bowls. It was awesome. Oh and he went to the grocery store and bought me yummy juice. Win!

On that note I need to wake those two up so we can go to karaoke.

So I got some new yarn tonight at knit night and I need some help coming up with projects for the yarns.

First up we have 200 yds of sport weight cashmere in a soft green. Clearly this is something I want to wear frequently in the cooler months but not with the kind of rough wear that happens with hiking socks.

Second yarn is fingering weight, 370 yards and 100 grams of superwash merino in a yellowy orangey color. Merino is one of my favorite yarns ever and I love wearing it. In theory I could make socks but in reality, I never do. What’s a gal to do?

Third yarn is another fingering weight yarn with 370 yards and 100 grams of superwash merino in a browny rusty awesomeness. Ditto what I said earlier with regard to socks.

So any ideas dear sweet blog land?

The boy and I drove to VA this weekend. We were off to visit his uncle who is in the hospital, rehabilitating from an aneurysm and a minor stroke. It was great to see him and he’s doing amazingly well all things considered. We also got to hang out with his cousins for a little while. I even let them talk me into going off roading. Holy cow. It’s a bit unnerving when the whole vehicle kind of rocks and you’re near a little cliff and it can’t get a good “footing”. Fortunately, we made it out alive so all is well.

After hanging with his cousins we drove closer in to DC to visit my friend who is working up there on a TDY from her TDY. Ahh government jobs, they always keep ya on your toes. We had a good visit and she took us out to eat to celebrate our engagement. The boy spent a lot of time playing with her cat by getting the cat to chase a laser around the hotel room. It was rather fun to watch. Sunday we moseyed into town and I finally got to go see the wonder that is G Street Fabrics. For those of you local to the c-bus, it’s a fabric shop that is probably bigger than the old Lazarus basement. I was a bit stunned at all the selection. I wish we had such a shop closer to home. Alas, the only project I knew the exact quantities of fabric I needed, they did not have the fabric I needed so I left without buying anything. But I did take a picture.

G Street Fabrics - View down 2/3 of the store

Then we headed into Alexandria where I went to Knit Happens and snatched up some Yarn Love – Charlotte Bronte Worsted. I have been wanting to try their yarns for awhile and I finally had a chance to see them in person before buying. I also snatched up a lovely little shawl pin to use with the shawl I was working on during the road trip. (More on the shawl later) All in all it was a good visit and I was happy to make it home and fold myself into bed.

*static*

Hello! It’s high time I break the radio silence. It seems I may be forming a pattern which involves taking June and July off from blogging and a good portion of July from knitting. Works for me. I have missed summer break all these hard, laborious years since I became a full fledged, tax paying adult. This week I have been working on a super adult type decision. A view of the decision making process is below.

What to knit next and which pattern to go with which yarn? I am sure you didn’t expect anything else. Oh and the boy says it looks like I am building a yarn castle. I am not sure what type of yarn invasion he is expecting but I would be pleased with the kind that gives me fancy pants yarn! Talk to you all soon!

So I came home from Germany to find the last bit of my yarn from Maryland Sheep and Wool had arrived. Perhaps y’all would like to see some pictures of what I managed to score?

I headed over to the Tilli Tomas booth to find yarn to make Sahara as well as the pattern. They didn’t have the worsted weight silk there but they did have the DK Plie. Unfortunately they were out of Atmosphere which is the colorway of the worsted sequined silk that I got last year. Fortunately Tracy is awesome and shipped some to my house. That would be the yarn that showed up while I was in Germany. Now that I have all the pieces I s’pose I should get around to knitting it eh? Oh and I also bought some Beaded Plie because I felt like it and it was pretty. Any ideas what to make with 120 yds of DK beaded silk?

Beaded Plie by Tilli Tomas

Plie by Tilli Tomas

At the Autumn House Farm booth I found some lovely deep plum Highland Heathers yarn. I snagged enough to make a sweater for myself.

Highland Heathers

At The Fold’s booth I snagged some mill ends in enough yarn to make either Featherweight or Whisper Cardigan.

Considering how much the boy loves him some alpaca I decided to buy a pound of it. We shall see how long it takes me to actually get around to spinning it.

So for those of you sitting on the edge of your seat. We’ve decided that my entire stash isn’t contaminated because the new yarn simply wasn’t in the house long enough or anywhere near the whole stash to infect it. The yarn in question was opened up and examined for any additional larvae or egg clusters. I didn’t see any of the above but then I was told I may not be able to see the eggs depending on yarn color. All questionable yarn is in the freezer individually packaged in Ziploc bags. I am aware that my freezer isn’t cold enough to actually kill eggs but I am hoping to quarantine it until I have enough time to build my moth hospital. I have a chest in our spare bedroom that doesn’t house anything but sheets for the bunk beds. I will be putting the sheets on a shelf and putting moth balls and some spray from the hardware store in the chest along with the contaminated yarns.

I won’t be working on Vivian or Vixen for probably two weeks at the soonest. Which is fine, I have decided to work on the two pairs of socks I had lined up for myself after the sweater and camisole were complete. I am also going to begin the baby knitting. 4 babies are due in my life. They always come in droves don’t they? The good news about all the baby knitting is that it has given me a starting point for a problem I didn’t know I had until this moth scare.

The moth scare now has me wanting to knit down my stash and get it into manageable airtight clear bins instead of being all on display out in the open. I went on Ravelry and downloaded the excel spreadsheet of my stash and found that I have 192 balls of yarns in my stash. Which doesn’t include the about 10 balls of yarn I got over the weekend. It does however include partial skeins. I also added up my yardage and it appears that I have around 44k yards of stash left. It’s clearly time for some stash busting and I would like to make a size-able dent before Maryland Sheep and Wool (MDSW) so I can be justified in buying yarn there. Although in my defense I have currently knit up half of the yarn I bought at MDSW last year and over the next week I will cast on a project with another purchase from MDSW. So my goal for this year is to find a way to knit up somewhere between 50 and 75 of those skeins. That’s doable right? Or am I just a mad woman?

I know I promised an update to Sticks N Stitches today but I am sorry that’s going to have to wait another day or so. Right now I need your help. I found a little white larvae on a new skein of yarn today – this yarn came into my home on Friday evening from a friend and was not near the Sticks N Stitches stuff for anyone who is wondering.

It was however in my knitting bag and on my carpet and came with a giant bag of fabric. The yarns and projects are now in ziploc bags in the freezer and the fabric is in the garage. (It’s still below freezing around these parts.) Uh now what?

Have any of you experienced a moth infestation and know what to do? I would like to be sure that these skeins are no longer infected before I continue knitting on the garments. I know there is something about making sure there are no more eggs and such. I also need to let the person who gave me the yarn know but I would like to be able to give them a solution rather than just a massive problem. Thanks for any advice you can offer!
