FO - Sock Monkey Socks

Category: FO, Knittinglittlewit @ 9:05 am

What’s this? An FO? Get ready, there will be a few of these coming up (and some backdated for the month of June).

Description: Socks for me
Pattern:
Marigold Socks by Pamela Wynne
Yarn used:
.62 skeins of Austermann Step Colorway 05 (Wool, Nylon) 100g / 460 yds This yarn is treated with Jojoba aloe. Should keep the socks soft through 40 washes.
Care Instructions: Machine Wash
Needle Size: US 1 (2.25mm)
Modifications: None.
Finished Size: Women’s Medium
Date Started: 7/5/2008
Date Completed: 8/5/2008
Notes: These socks were a test of faith that they wouldn’t look terrible once done. The toe started out seeming huge, but I knit away figuring if they were too big I could give them to someone. Then the first 3 inches just looked hideous to me but I figured I could give them to someone. Then there was a week with 3 knit nights, 10 hrs in the car and lots of free time on Saturday and Sunday. The socks quickly took shape and stopped being ugly and now, they are done! :)

Oh and I made these socks match, only had to cut the yarn one place in each sock to make the color repeats line up. Too cool. :)

It’s official, I do not like provisional cast on short row toes. I will stick with my crazy Cat Bordhi eastern style cast on for toe up socks, henceforth.

Pictures!

Lakehouse

Category: Knitting, Personallittlewit @ 10:16 am

The boy and I traipsed out to the lake house this weekend. My parents have been inviting us down to see their new boat so we obliged and squeezed them into our busy busy summer schedule. (The summer of weddings and business travel attacks!) Saturday after eating a scrumptious breakfast at our favorite small town eatery we headed back to the cabin to get ready to go boating. Unfortunately the boat battery was dead so we distracted ourselves with things like billiards, knitting and reading while the battery charged. Then we got ready to head out in the boat. Here is the boy ready to go:

Alas, when we got to the dock the boat wouldn’t start. :( We couldn’t get it to jump and so we had to go back to the cabin. We ate lunch and then went ahead and walked to the lake instead. It was a ton of fun just swimming and splashing around.

The overall trip was really great and relaxing. Hopefully we will be able to go back down in a couple of months and get out on the water in the new boat. :)

Seaming!

Category: Knitting, Personallittlewit @ 11:59 pm

I finished seaming two things this weekend. I seamed my minimalist cardigan (action shots to come!) and that surprise I knitted last weekend. We also painted the closet, hung the shelves, put everything back in the closets, got the lawn mowed and a sundry of other tasks around the house. I began knitting the hemlock ring but somewhere I lost a stitch so I lost about 4.5 hrs of knitting time tinking back to find the lost stitch and then the re-knitting I will have to do tom’w morning. I want to have this knit up to the chart so all I have to take on the plane is the chart.

Tomorrow I am off to Utah for a family vacation. The blog will most likely be updated when I get back as there is a distinct lack of communication between my camera and the mac. (and any other computer that doesn’t have a memory card slot built in.) If any one knows how to fix this problem I would be much obliged. (Basically the cable doesn’t work, or rather when using the cable none of the computers - pc or mac - recognize the camera. Oh and I have multiple cables that don’t work, not just one. And this problem happened with my old camera too, the one that TSA stole.)

WIP Wednesday - Blocking My Sweater

Category: Knittinglittlewit @ 10:11 pm

I finished knitting up my sweater at knit night last week. Of course the last tidbit to do was block and seam. If you were to guess that I thought about doing it all weekend and went on my merry way completing other tasks you would be absolutely correct. Today as I was talking to my mom we realized that Park City, Utah is going to be cold next week. 50F may not seem cold unless you are coming from somewhere where it has been 80 to 90F for a couple of weeks. This was all the push I needed to finally block the sweater. I will seam it up along with my other project that I finished over the weekend, tomorrow at knit night. Then I will be able to wear my own very warm (suri merino!) handknit sweater to ward off the chill in Utah. Huzzah!

The sweater drying after being blocked.

On another note, I *love* this Suri Merino. It is a gorgeous color and stays equally beautiful when wet. So even if I get caught in a torrential downpour my sweater will still look good. :) (Priorities!) I am not sure if it was the Suri Merino or the terry cloth towel but after I patted these dry (rolled up in towel and stepped on towel to squeeze out water) the pieces were almost completely dry and the towel was soaked. :) But that means I won’t have to worry about them taking forever to dry even with the 80% humidity we have here in Ohio.

Secret Knitting

Category: Knitting, Personallittlewit @ 5:16 pm

I accomplished a great feat this weekend. I cast on an item on Friday evening and finished knitting it Sunday evening. I have a couple little seaming things to do tonight (hopefully that will include my mother teaching me to chain) and then it will be complete. Alas, it is a gift, one that knit up a whole heck of a lot faster than I intended - US 15 needles and yarn held double, who knew? - so I can not show you any pictures. Please just join me in my victory dance.

The wall we were spackling on Friday belongs to one of our closets. We are putting in shelves and double hanging in most of them. I am hoping to have all four of them done by this coming Sunday. Here’s to hoping. :)
