Sticks N Stitches Reminder

Good morning everyone! Don’t forget that THIS Sunday is Sticks N Stitches with our Columbus Blue Jackets! Puck drops at 5pm (doors open at 4pm) and we’re playing the New Jersey Devils. It should be a great evening. We have lots of great door prizes lined up and the organizers from My Very Own Blanket will be in attendance!

Two weekends ago we put together all the goodie bags that have taken over my house. :) You can see a sneak peek here:

Sticks N Stitches 2011 – Columbus Blue Jackets

Are you ready for the 2010 – 2011 Sticks N Stitches with your Columbus Blue Jackets?

This year’s game is Sunday March 20 at 5pm against the New Jersey Devils! We will be sitting in section 207 and tickets are $25 a piece. Tickets can be ordered directly through our contact at the Columbus Blue Jackets. There will also be a copy of the order form on my website as soon as I have it – around January 19th. Please order your tickets early to ensure that you are seated with the group.

We will be supporting the local charity – My Very Own Blanket this year. My Very Own Blanket provides blankets and bath kits to area foster children. They accept knit, crochet, sewn, “no-sew” and quilted blankets. Suggestions for blanket sizes and materials can be found on their website. We will be accepting finished blankets, bath kit supplies, blanket supplies and any monetary donations at the organizer table during the game.

If you know someone who would like to be added to the mailing list please have them pop over and sign up for the email list.

Go Jackets!

New Toys

I have been struggling with the mouse on my PC for several months now (the scrolling wheel won’t scroll up) and I may have broken the stands on my keyboard a couple of months back. I kept telling myself that I would go get a new mouse and keyboard soon. Today was finally the day, we headed off to Target and while I waded through the horror that is printer ink, the boy located the keyboards and mice. ~ As a side note, I feel that printer ink should last for more than just one ream of paper, heck none of them even purport to last for a ream of paper! ~ Most of the keyboards for sale were all fancy pants and wireless. It appears it is time for me to move on up in the world and get with the times. ;) I was mulling over which keyboard to buy when I realized that the Logitech mouse/keyboard set was on sale for $15. And sold! The boy even picked up a set for himself. We’ll use it in the basement to watch our Netflix movies because we are so hi tech. Some day we may even get a TV with resolution clear enough to read the Netflix menu. ;) Once we got home we plugged them in to check out if they would work with our individual needs – I needed mine to work with my KVM switch and the boy needed to be able to game with his mouse. All was well. I can even scroll up! It’s very exciting for me. :D

Now, the boy is complaining that his mouse is squeaking…we’ll see if it’s still squeaking in the morning. Silly boy.

In other news, that riddle from yesterday, it’s gotten worse. I am totally going to run out of yarn and I can’t decide if I should just rip it out now at 28″ and just re-knit the yarn into a new pattern. Or if I should block the scarf long or if I should just write a note apologizing to whomever receives the scarf for its short stature and give them some ideas on how to wear it all fancy like. Sigh.

Birthday Boy

Today is the boy’s birthday. We will now be the same age for the next 2.5 months until I level up again. ;) heh. I think I have just decided to refer to adding years on to my age as leveling up. Brilliant! The boy was quite happy with his “old man gifts” today, new slippers from me and clamps from his parents. Then of course I got him a child’s gift – the Lego Advent calendar which clearly says on the box for ages 5-12. :D It took some persuading but he won’t be opening any of the doors before the proper day. My sister also made a cake which my parents were awesome enough to deliver. Then we spent the rest of our day just relaxing. We have to get back to the grind tom’w. It’s sad to see this lovely 4 day weekend end.

In other news, I have a riddle for you -

How can a scarf measure 10″ length and 15g of yarn used; then 3 hours later measure 21.5″ length with 45g of yarn used? Give up? Me too. Oh well. Hopefully I won’t run out of yarn too soon. Also, it appears that I have the same gauge all the way through but I haven’t taken a precise measurement.  Gauge doesn’t count for scarves :P

Red Scarf Project

I was reading Anne’s blog today and saw that there is a serious shortage of scarves for the Red Scarf project. If any of you have time over the holidays to whip out a scarf (knit or crochet) to send along it would be much appreciated. I am going to try very hard to get one done by Dec 10th as the last day for the collection is Dec 15th. The red scarf project benefits children who have aged out of foster care and are going off to college.

Scarf Size: Approximately 60″ long and 5″ to 8″ wide. Scarves should be long enough to be wrapped around the neck, with tails long enough to be tied in the front.

Style: Think unisex collegiate. Ask yourself if your son, brother, and/or husband would enjoy receiving the scarf. Fringes are optional. Your scarf should drape and tie easily.

Yarn: Preferably DK, double fingering-weight, worsted weight, or light bully yarns. No laceweight, super-chunky, or mohair yarns as there are many people who find mohair too itchy. The yarn should be soft.

Color: Red! However, this could mean burgundy, cherry, russet, red stripes with other colors, or multicolor hues including red. Other unisex colors, including black, navy, teal, olive or gold are also welcome.

Finished and tagged: Yarn ends should be securely sewn in. For a personal touch, attach a tag saying “Handmade for You” with your first name, city, and group affiliation, if any. Donors have also included washing instructions, messages of encouragement, gift cards, burger bucks, books of stamps, etc.
