Eye Candy Friday – Myrtle

This is the myrtle we have that grows right outside the kitchen window. I love the little purple flowers and it makes for such a nice green ground cover the rest of the year.

I love looking at the flowers blooming around our house! :D

Today the roofers came and put up our Gutter Toppers! Hooray! Now when all the leaves fall on our house they won’t go in the gutters, they will just fall on the ground. Anyone want to help me rake what’s left from last fall? ;) Really? No one is jumping up and down to help? Bummer. :)

I wound up yarn last night and printed out a pattern to take with me to knit night tonight. Of course once I got to knit night I realized that the pattern calls for the yarn held double…sigh. When am I going to learn to actually, truly, read a pattern and not skim it before jumping in with both feet? :P So I played around for a little bit knitting some seed stitch but once everyone showed up I decided to chatter away instead. Once home, I went to look up the pattern on Ravelry but of course there are only 2 projects listed in Ravelry and only one even has a picture. I guess I will have to document my foray thoroughly to assist those who come next. I am going to now swatch and see what I get on much smaller needles to see if I can avoid having to knit this double. Good times eh? :)

Earth Day

Today’s Earth Day was moderately productive around here. :) We will ignore the fairly large amounts of laundry I did today getting fabrics pre-washed for sewing this weekend. ;) After work I went out to dinner with a chum and then got home a bit earlier than normal so I set to work on my bit of our yard. I have been debating building a compost bin for our backyard for awhile now so I asked the boy to come out and help me pick out a spot. I have to hand it to him he did pick out a rather excellent spot, hopefully I can get it started soon. :)

After that I set out Rounding Up the grass in the cracks of the sidewalk. I also winced at the dandelions that have some how sprung up in our yard. I will probably spread some weed and feed this weekend as it will be warm enough and there is no rain forecast. (Oh thanks for the reminder, the gutter topper people are coming tomorrow!) We also picked out which flower bed will be used as our garden so now it’s on me to get those plants dug up and replanted elsewhere. I just need to pick a spot to transplant them to.

Lastly we dug out the seeds. I got really excited about growing vegetables the other week and we haven’t done anything with the seeds we bought. :P So we got out the little seed starters and went about planting the seeds that need a bit of time growing indoors before planting outdoors. The other seeds we kind of missed the window on growing them indoors first but it’s ok because they will be ready for planting outside very soon. Actually, pretty much as soon as we can get the flower/garden bed ready. Hopefully something will come of these plantings and we won’t have lots of dead plants on our hands this year. ;) *fingers crossed*

Tank Success!

I finished knitting and seaming the Fern Tank tonight. Hooray! I will be washing and blocking it tomorrow. I should probably wash and block Vivian at the same time. We watched Arsenic and Old Lace tonight as well as the Virgin Suicides. Arsenic and Old Lace was much more entertaining and comical than I thought it would be. :) The Virgin Suicides, well that was intense to say the least. Not much else to report on the home front. Have a g’night everyone!
