Wedding Season

Category: Personal, Travellittlewit @ 7:31 am

Wedding season is upon us. The boy and I will leave in an hour and a half to begin our drive NE to the Finger Lakes. His other cousin on his mom’s side is getting married tomorrow (yes on a Friday) in a castle out there and it’s gorgeous. Or at least it’s gorgeous in the pictures. :) The awesome part about them getting married in the Finger Lakes on a Friday before a 3 day weekend is that we can turn this whole trip into a little mini vacation. Today we will meander our way up stopping to shop as we please (and to buy certain items to wear to the wedding) and tomorrow morning we plan to tour around the Finger Lakes a bit because the wedding isn’t until 5pm. That may also include a visit to the LYS in the town where the wedding is. Then on Saturday we are heading to a campground nearby to set up our home base. Then it’s off one of the many wine trails out there. The boy is working on becoming a wine snob, some may say he has the nose for it. ;) I will play along but meh I don’t like wine (or beer) and I have decided that really it’s ok. No one needs more alcohol to consume anyway. :) I will just stick with my liquor thankyouverymuch.

Then on Sunday because *somebody* has finally acquired a passport and because we can, we are headed to the Canadian side of the Niagara Falls. I found a lovely campground a few miles from the Falls and we can crash there Sunday night. Then it’s a brief jaunt home, stopping en route by my friend’s home to deliver her birthday present. Then back here so the boy can go play with his best friend on the only free day he has this week before his wedding Saturday. The main point though is that we *finally* get to go off and spend some time together, relax, have fun and celebrate in the happy couples’ day. :) Now I better get going and finish wrapping their present. ;)

PS - Whether there are pictures and updates while I am gone depends on how busy having fun and relaxing we are. :D It also depends on if I buy a card reader for the lapple since the camera refuses to talk to any of my computers anymore.

What is this? It’s Wednesday AND I am updating the blog AND I have a WIP to show you? Will wonders never cease? Ok enough of the tom foolery. On to the photos:.

Full length (ish) shot.

Check out the rockin stitch markers. The green ones were made by LittleMsMarker on Etsy. Check out her site. The others were made by my chum Bunnysquirrel. They spell knit when they are all there together.

You can begin to see the patterning here. I think the recipient will like this mucho. :)

FO - Baby Kimono

Category: FO, Knittinglittlewit @ 12:34 pm

During my absence from the blog in June and July I whipped this up. I wasn’t able to post it earlier because it was a shower gift for my sister. I didn’t exactly swatch for this, I just kind of doubled the yarn I had on hand and went for it. I figured the worst that would happen is that it would be big, but you know babies are always growing aren’t they? :)

Modeled by the adorable Cory. (He’s from the Corvette museum)

Description: Baby Kimono
Pattern: Baby Kimono #70352AD by Lion Brand Yarn
Yarn used: Cascade 220 Superwash in the Really Red 809 and White 871 Colorways (100% Peruvian Highland Wool) 100g / 220yds; .85 skein of each yarn. The yarn was held double.
Care Instructions: Machine wash
Needle Size: US 15 (10.0 mm)
Modifications: I used a worsted weight yarn held double. The pattern called for bulky yarn.
Finished Size: round about big enough for a 2 year old.
Date Started: 5/30/2008
Date Completed: 6/2/2008
Notes: The crocheted tie around the tummy was made by my mother because she can crochet and I am gimpy. :) But she showed me how. Some day I won’t be so gimpy about it.

Close up of sorts.

Full shot.

FO - KnitGang Liesl, the short

Category: FO, Knitting, Ravelympicslittlewit @ 8:51 am

Today I have for you the second of my Ravelympics2008 projects. In the rare event (or so I thought) that I was able to finish the cabled scarf I decided to cast on Liesl. A good portion of my Thursday night knit group (KnitGang TM) is making, has made or will make/receive the Liesl. Once they are all done we are going to do a fashion show to showcase it on all our various body types. :) I will admit, this FO has one tiny thing to be done. I need to add a hook & eye to the top but I have already worn it twice without that. To do the hook & eye I need to get in touch with the boy’s aunt and ask her what type we used on my princess dress because those were awesome. :)

Description: KnitGang Liesl, the short.
Pattern: Liesl by Ysolda Teague
Yarn used: 193 yds Catalina Yarns Baby Alpaca Chunky Colorway Purple (100% Baby Alpaca) 100g / 109yds
Care Instructions: Hand wash

Modifications: This pattern is a “choose your own adventure” mine included cap sleeves, a high neckline and was knit to my natural waist.
Finished Size: 34″
Date Started: 8/21/2008
Date Completed: 8/22/2008
Notes: This knit up amazingly fast and makes me super happy.

Sorry this shot is kind of blurry. Hopefully I will find time to take some better shots at some point. :)

Ravelympics08 - Quick Hit #14

Category: Knitting, Ravelympicslittlewit @ 12:20 pm

Last night while visiting my sister and her daughter in the hospital I finished knitting my Liesl. I can’t believe it only took me two days of actual knitting to make this. It’s lovely and I may make another in the future. Partly because I am a child of the 80s and I totally love “Choose your own adventure” books and that’s what this sweater reminds me of. After we got home from the hospital I wove in the ends. All that is left now is blocking to open up the lace. Look for an FO post tom’w or Monday. I am super excited to have successfully completed two projects for Ravelympics. I really thought I was going to be pushing it to finish just the scarf. :) Of course now this means no more excuses about items taking forever, if I just spend 3 hrs knitting a day I can finish anything quickly! :D

For now I am off to visit my grandmother for the weekend. Tschus .
