Magic couch

Category: PersonalLittleWit @ 23:03

Yesterday we celebrated Mother’s day with my mom and the boy’s Grandma. I wasn’t going to be able to see my mother today because I was on a plane traveling to Denver. We introduced my parents’ and siblings to our new favorite place to eat around the corner from our house. They enjoyed it so all is good.

Then I went home and took a short nap and we headed for the boy’s grandparents home about an hour away. We got to hang out with his aunts and parents and we all ate a good meal using Grandma’s good china and linens. She was so happy to have everyone there, it was really nice.

We finally wandered home some time after 9pm and when we get home I headed immediately upstairs to start packing for my trip and the boy hit the basement to play Mario Kart (which he just acquired). A few minutes later my phone rang:

The boy: Want to come down and see the present your parents’ left us?

Me: What?

The boy: You know this couch I almost tripped over…

The couch he almost tripped over, we both walked straight past and didn’t even see when we came into the house. My parents delivered the 7′ couch they had offered us at lunch while we were gone. I love this couch, it’s big, brown and comfy. I took many naps on it growing up. Perhaps it’s legacy will continue. :)

Eye Candy Friday - Pumpkin

Category: YarnLittleWit @ 09:45

While I was at Maryland Sheep & Wool, I saw many lovely yarns. This particular lace weight shouted “HEY THERE GOOD LOOKING!” (I like it when they flatter me.) I returned in kind and picked it up and brought it home. The oranges are so vibrant and I absolutely love it. Now to pick out a shawl pattern to do it justice.

Name: C*EYE*BER Fiber by Mama E
Brand: Hand Dye for Cloverhill Yarn Shop
Weight: Lace / 2 ply
Yardage: 1780 yards (1628 meters)
Unit weight: 231 grams (8.15 ounces)
Fibers: Wool
Machine wash?:I don’t know.
Notes: There wasn’t much in the way of labels on this yarn. It just says 100% wool and gives a guesstimate on yardage. I added the yarn to Ravelry and I hope that someone can update the brand so I can find out more information. :)

Untwisted

Category: KnittingLittleWit @ 22:59

I went to knit night and it seems that yes indeed I have been expending more energy than necessary to knit because I have been twisting my stitches. Light bulbs went off and suddenly my purl stitch doesn’t look so weird. I am now an untwisted knitter and it’s possible that I may even knit faster since it will take me half the time to make a stitch. :) Now I am free to cast on to my heart’s content. I am off to find a sock pattern for plane knitting as I prepare to fly around the US. Huzzah!

In other news my pretty pretty Tilli Tomas Voile de la Mer showed up today in the colorway Forest. I was quite pleased to see that arrive. I also received a crazy encrypted laptop that tries to self destruct if you enter the password wrong. It doesn’t even load the OS until you enter the password. I think it’s pretty cool! :)

Where did my nuts go?

Category: PersonalLittleWit @ 22:40

The boy came home from work fairly distraught today. It seems the nut on the rear tire of his motorcycle is gone and this nut was responsible for holding the axle in place. We are both very very happy that he made it home safely (without the rear wheel coming unhinged, twisting and dumping him on the ground). However we are perplexed as to how this happened. My guess is that it must have vibrated off, the boy wants to know how that happened.

We went to our neighborhood motorcycle shop (because we have one and it is awesome) to see if they had the missing nut. Alas, they did not, however they gave us the name of two dealers in the area. One was closed for the day but the other one was open so we hightailed it across town and pulled in about 5 minutes before they closed. $30 later and the boy will have a replacement nut next week.

Unfortunately we won’t be able to ride down to his grandparents this weekend like we were going to but it’s better to be safe than sorry. I will have to wait another week or so before I will be able to take the bike out on my own. That was the plan for tonight because we are going to a Demo Day at Harley on Saturday and I wanted to take the boy’s bike out before I hopped on the Harleys. It seems I will have to just wing it. :)

WIP Wednesday - My Sweater Back

Category: Knitting, WIPLittleWit @ 11:38

I have finally finished the back of my sweater. Alas, I kept thinking I was nearing the end and then realizing that there was one more instruction. So about 10 inches or so later I am done. :) I think it looks great. Tomorrow I will learn how to not twist my stitches.

This is the minimalist cardigan from IK Fall 2007 knit in moss stitch.

Note: I have added a new photo feature to my blog. You can click on the pictures to make them bigger. :)
