The boy came home from work fairly distraught today. It seems the nut on the rear tire of his motorcycle is gone and this nut was responsible for holding the axle in place. We are both very very happy that he made it home safely (without the rear wheel coming unhinged, twisting and dumping him on the ground). However we are perplexed as to how this happened. My guess is that it must have vibrated off, the boy wants to know how that happened.
We went to our neighborhood motorcycle shop (because we have one and it is awesome) to see if they had the missing nut. Alas, they did not, however they gave us the name of two dealers in the area. One was closed for the day but the other one was open so we hightailed it across town and pulled in about 5 minutes before they closed. $30 later and the boy will have a replacement nut next week.
Unfortunately we won’t be able to ride down to his grandparents this weekend like we were going to but it’s better to be safe than sorry. I will have to wait another week or so before I will be able to take the bike out on my own. That was the plan for tonight because we are going to a Demo Day at Harley on Saturday and I wanted to take the boy’s bike out before I hopped on the Harleys. It seems I will have to just wing it. 🙂
