Eye Candy Friday - An Almost FO

Category: KnittingLittleWit @ 12:54 pm

Today’s Eye Candy Friday is a glimpse into the almost completed first sweater I have ever made. See how it is all seamed up? I jut need to weave in the ends, block it and add buttons! Then my niece will be able to wear it whenever she catches a chill. :) Huzzah!

It makes me happy to see how far this has progressed. :)

Tai Jacket - The end is nigh

Category: KnittingLittleWit @ 11:50 am

Tonight at knit night, I picked up and knit the neckband for my niece’s jacket. Amazingly enough I didn’t run out of yarn, even though I thought I was going to! Then I came home, bound off the neck and attached the sleeves. Here you can see two pictures of me modeling the sweater. I will knit up the side seams on the morrow. Enjoy!

The pictures are a bit dark and terrible but you can get the idea. Plus I am about oh, 25 yrs older than the intended recipient. ;) I think they will fit a one year old quite nicely. :)

Bike Night

Category: Knitting, PersonalLittleWit @ 9:49 pm

Last night I knit up a square for the blanket being made for the Suicide Prevention Silent Auction in Dayton. It will go off in the mail tomorrow morning because like the goober I am I forgot to buy an envelope to mail it in while I was at Office Max today.

It’s a basic 6×6 inch square with a 3st garter stitch border and using the Triangles Stitch from Vogue Knitting’s Stitchionary Volume One.

Tonight we went out to Bike Night at the local Quaker Steak & Lube. It was great. Bikes EVERYWHERE, it really looked like a very odd bike lot. There was everything from Boss Haus to GSXR and Harleys to a Vespa. You don’t typically see all of those bikes sold at the same dealership. ;)

I did much better on the back tonight. The boy said “it was a lot easier this time.” Although there was one turn that made me a bit nervous, we were over pretty far. I even got comfortable just holding on to the back handles. That greatly reduced the banging of our heads together at steps, which made for a much more enjoyable ride.

Riding on the bike is great because when you have short errands to run it’s much quicker. For example, I needed to drop off an envelope at FedEx for work (yeah, I know, I should have bought an envelope there…) so the boy and I rode over, I hopped off, took the envelope out of my jacket, dropped it in the bin and off we went. Plus, riding on the bike is just fun and you feel like you can really commune with nature. (Well as long as you ignore the carbon footprint and such.) I can’t wait to spend more time riding this summer!

I have been saved!

The evidence:

Please feel free to snicker at the addressee.

Suzanne saved my dupa with this adorable little skein of yarn.

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! There was enough to help me finish the 2nd sleeve on my niece’s sweater. All I have to do now is pick up and knit the neck band and then seam the edges. (I think - I need to reread the instructions.)

Proof that the 2nd sleeve is complete:

And they’re the same size!

Do me proud

Category: Personal, YarnLittleWit @ 11:41 pm

The boy and I ran some enthralling errands today, including a trip to the Apple store, exchanging a kitchen scale and LYS hopping. I was in search of some yarns for charity blankets and a personal blanket. At the first yarn shop (out of 3) his tummy was rumbling loudly so we split after I found yarn for the charity blankets. At the second store he wasn’t in the mood to continue shopping so I told him “your job is to find yarn in this color range in a worsted, machine washable wool.” So what does he do? Grabs the two sample yarns I had pointed to and goes to ask the store employees if they have anything in that color in a worsted, machine washable wool. :) It was kind of fun to let him do the work.

Unfortunately we didn’t find what I needed at the second store so then we were off to the third shop. At the third shop I found a yarn that would work and the proceeded to look at the books leaving the yarn in his hands. I was impressed that the shop employee saw him holding the yarn and asked if he was finding everything he needed. He explained that he was with me, and so they asked if I was finding what I needed. I asked if they had any other yarns in that color range that were worsted, machine washable. The lady informed me that they had another brand and showed me the knit up versions of both. I went with the yarn I had already picked because it was softer and commented to the boy that he would want to feel it because it was soft. He said “I like alpaca” and the employee asked him to feel another yarn she had. He obliged and said “Hmm is that llama?” and she was quite pleased to tell him that he was correct. She also informed me that he was a keeper [which I clearly already know ;) ].

Ya, do me proud baby. :)
