Knitting in DC - Round 2

Category: Knittinglittlewit @ 10:45 pm

My after work plans for Thursday fell through so I did what any rational knitter with a deadline would do - I found the closest knit group party to crash. I had heard of a lovely shop in DC at multiple locations and thought a bit about stopping into their Georgetown location but for one reason or another never made it over. So I grabbed some dinner at Subway and hopped on the super cool Circulator (known as the Perculator to those in the know…or really just me and my old train pals) and it dropped me in Georgetown about a block North of Stitch DC. Hooray for public transit accessible shopping :) Sometimes, I really do miss DC.

The shop was small (real estate is on the opposite end of the spectrum from cheap in Georgetown) but it had lots of great yarns. I found some very very gorgeous Tilli Tomas something or other silk and seacell. Alas, I gave up yarn and clothes shopping for Lent and this is the first year that I have made at all the way through and I didn’t want to break my streak. So if it’s there when I get back into town then I will buy some. :) Unless of course, I am suddenly broke from buying a house and the cost is through the roof. :)

The knit night group was a fun group and I am rather looking forward to hanging with them again when I am in town the next time.

DC Knitting

Category: Knittinglittlewit @ 8:19 am

Last night I had the pleasure of meeting up with my dear Ravelry chums: bunnysquirrel and Suzanne17 for knit night at The Celtic Knot Yarn Shop. We had great fun and remembered to actually take pictures to document this get together. Since every other time we forget to take pictures. Woops!

Here I am rocking it out on the shop’s sheep. :) Yay sheep!

PS sitting on a wooden toy sheep for over an hour and a half will make your bum wicked sore.

The ninja needles are behind us in this photo. They like to say “Hiya! Hiya!”

So I was in a *really* good mood and was exceedingly silly.

We had a really good evening. I made some solid progress on the Alpaca Surprise. This was probably due to the fact that some of us were there rather late…let’s just say I got back to my hotel room at 2 am. Oh and I made a new chum! :)

Manic Monday

Category: Personallittlewit @ 7:36 pm

Happy Monday and Happy St Patrick’s Day. The luck o’ the Irish must be strong in me today because my flight to DC was rather uneventful, my luggage was the second one off the conveyor belt and it was a gorgeous day. Also, when we went out for St Patrick’s after work we were able to slowly take over one side of the bar, stool by stool (giggle).

Sadly, with people lurking around this weekend I wasn’t able to get much knitting done. Although, in good news we are getting very close to being finished with our packing. The boy and his parents will be doing the deep cleaning this weekend and then next week is THE week. I can’t wait. It’s probably a good thing that I am on travel right now. I am being distracted from all the minutiae of the move and therefore keeping myself from going crazy in the apartment.

I did bring some knitting with me so once I get back to the hotel tonight I should be able to make some progress worthy of posting.

HAPPY ST PATRICK’S DAY EVERYONE. :)

Yarn Candy Friday - Suri Merino

Category: Yarnlittlewit @ 12:18 pm

Today’s yarn candy is brought to you by the color Red and the following animals: suri alpaca and merino sheep. :) This yarn is intended for my first adult sized sweater. I have been planning the sweater since the fall. I bought yarn to swatch the sweater in October, but of course never got around to swatching. Then on the December/January cusp I bought enough yarn for the sweater and I still haven’t swatched. Then 2 Fridays ago I saw someone at Knit Night knitting my intended sweater and it looked really nice and the ladies in attendance approved of my yarn choice…and yet I still have not swatched! Well, in my defense, there are a few deadlined items on the needles that must be completed but I promise to swatch soon. If I don’t, you have my permission to chide me. So without further ado…the yarn:

Does it look soft to you? It feels soft to me!

Stacked yarn…

So sometimes I regress and stack things because “hey! it’s cool.” :)

WIP Wednesday - Blizzard Progress

Category: Knittinglittlewit @ 10:17 pm

Some knitting goodness came out of the mini blizzard on Saturday. I made a lot of progress on my Alpaca Surprise project. It is now over 50% completed and looking like it is on target for its delivery date.

See how small the balls of yarn are getting? Progress!

I started the Celtic Cable Scarf. I have encountered an interesting problem with scarves…I can do one repeat of a cabled or lace pattern and then I am done. Perhaps it’s because at one repeat the design is complete and I don’t feel compelled to keep knitting to see how it will look because it is already done. Hopefully I can get over that since I now have 2 scarves on the needles and chilling at just one repeat. Perhaps they will just be my filler projects. (Like I need a filler project with my Summer of Weddings To Do List!)

Do you think I should maybe go up a needle size?

Lastly, my first sweater project, Tai’s Jacket, is coming along quite swimmingly, except for that part where I clearly lost all ability to count and made one side too big causing me to run out of yarn. Perhaps once I finish Alpaca Surprise I can sit down and rip back the excess knitting and finish up Tai’s Jacket. As long as I finish it the boy won’t be able to tease me about how she won’t be able to wear it when she’s 16…yeah he *thinks* he’s funny.

I surprised myself taking this picture. It’s the first time I have seen the whole jacket laid out. I think it’s gonna be great!

size difference
See how on the left it’s about an inch longer…yeah I am a goof.

I am lazy and it is dark, pics in the AM. Pictures are up now.
