Sticks ‘n Stitches has set a date

I just got off the phone with Clint from sales at the Columbus Blue Jackets. He said it’s a go for the Sun Feb 10 game against the LA Kings. Puck drops at 6pm. I am uber nervous about setting this all up.

Depending on our numbers (100+ people), we may be able to have the Sky Terrace otherwise we will be in section F in the Upper Level [read safety concerns for folks looking DOWN during a hockey game!] I am trying to keep the tickets at or below the $25 mark. Does that seem reasonable?

Feb 9th is my birthday so he said we could do the “Birthday Bash” package which would include a Blue Jackets hat, hot dog and Pepsi for everyone. We may also be able to get Stinger to come up and hang out. I am still trying to keep us in the mid $20 range. I told him that $35/ ticket may keep out casual folks who would be going more for the social event than the actual game ;)

Also, I need to contact Interweave about whether they can do some kind of goody bag like they did for the Avalanche and to see what else I need to do on their end. I also need to look into sponsorship from LYS in Columbus…so much to do!

Please give me feed back. The more people I can tell them we *definitely* have on board the more we may be able to get out of it.

Sticks and Stitches Blue Jackets Style?

Last year Interweave sponsored Sticks and Stitches for the Colorado Avalanche. The event was ported into hockey from baseball’s popular Stitch ‘n Pitch. I heard they were doing it again this year and became very excited at the prospect of attending one in my own state. I rushed off an e-mail to Interweave and was quickly responded to by Annie from marketing. It turns out that The Avalanche is indeed having another one this year (Jan 5th). If you are in the area they could use some help for handing out goody bags and such. Apparently the Avalanche was the only NHL franchise to realize how cool this could be.

I was put in contact with the Avalanche’s group sales guy Brendan who was absolutely wonderful and has given me a complete arsenal for talking to the Columbus Blue Jackets. I also told him I found about Sticks and Stitches through the hockey group on Ravelry. That intrigued him a bit. The Avs had about 100 folks in attendance last year so that should be a good target and a nice incentive for the Jackets.

I am stoked about the idea of having this event in Columbus and am really hoping they go for it. Wish me luck! More to come…

LYS Database

I thought I would share why I have been MIA for the past couple of days. Never fear though, these socks will be finished by the 30th come hell or high water!

Another great thing to love about Ravelry…

I am part of a small contingent putting together and cleaning up the Local Yarn Store Database. This vast database of over 2000 stores will be linked to each user’s stash and then integrated into the site.  Can you imagine it? Browsing Ravelry you find a cool project, check out the yarns folks have made it with, decide on a yarn and then get a list of the yarn shops closest to your home that sell that yarn. :) Fantastic.

…hurries back to editing.

Sock update

Monday night I turned the heel. It was my first time making short row heels and I think they turned out fine. Tuesday night I worked up the leg to where the ribbing starts for the full leg and then I switched back to my mom’s second sock. I also re-blocked my one skein shawl and I think it’s looking a lot better. I am going to re-block it one more time with more pins. Progress photos to come.

This happens to be my all time favorite picture of my brother. It makes me laugh every time I look at it.

Pat

Sometimes he thinks that he is really smooth…silly boy.
