Self-Esteem, it does a body good.

I read this today:

Many organizational behaviors are directly related to an individual’s level of self-esteem. For example, people with high self-esteem will always believe they have the ability needed to succeed on the job. They will take more risks and are more likely to choose unconventional jobs than people with low self-esteem. By contrast, people with low self-esteem are more susceptible to external influence and are dependent on the receipt of positive feedback from others. In managerial positions, people with low self-esteem will be more concerned with pleasing others and less likely to adopt an unpopular position than people with high self-esteem.

It makes perfect sense. My life is finally explained. I know that I really need to just boost my self esteem and the world will become my oyster. That makes me smile.

Marriage fun

father of the bride
So it’s August but TBS was showing the ever wonderful “Father of the Bride,” typically a June staple, this past Saturday. Watching it with the boy I told him that no it’s not standard to have a wedding planner and yes it is possible to do it “Chipper” than Franc’s way. Then of course comes the discussion “who pays for the wedding anyway?” In my case, I informed him, I would have to pay for everything because as far as I know my parents have no intention of paying for anything. “Really?” he says. I don’t know so I call my mom, explain to her that I am watching Father of the Bride and how I love that movie and that the boy and I were casually discussing who would pay for any hypothetical future wedding. She says I don’t know, let me ask your father.

Rich are we paying for Erin’s wedding?

Thanks mom. I love that you give dad a mild coronary just to get a giggle, that must be why I love to do it to other people so much. I love my mom and my dad - who responded “Is she getting married anytime soon?” Aren’t they fun?

No I’m not getting married anytime soon, but I still love watching Father of the Bride and I am right there with George. I think that there is a conspiracy between the hot dog makers and the hot dog bun makers…

Oh and no one is stepping up to pay for any future hypothetical wedding at this point. So any donations are welcome. :)

Go bungles fans!

This makes me smile. You know it’s a new day when you can call a hotline to report annoying sports fans. Ahh this just makes me giggle. But I have to admit, I secretly think it’s cool. Although those rowdy season ticket holders who get too many infractions won’t be pleased. Nope. They will be banned from the stadium. Amazing.

SW Ohio Jobs?

Category: MySpacelittlewit @ 11:37 am

Hi there,

As some of you know and others of you are finding out now, I am looking at moving back to Ohio and into the Cincinnati/Dayton area. I have been looking for a couple of months but seem to be having a problem getting a foot in the door of the market. I think a lot of this has to do with the fact that my resume says Baltimore, MD and companies are afraid I will ask for relocation benefits or Monster/Careerbuilder is kicking me out because I am outside their established radius. So now I am asking if any of you have any contacts in the Dayton/Cincinnati area or know of any good places to look for paralegal work. My preference is to get into the legal field as a final test run before applying to law school although I am open to various jobs. If you have any ideas it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!

Erin

Social Commentary

As I was reading this article
today I was amused that the general public thinks that they have the ability to tell an author what to do in terms of character development or mortality. Do we really want the authors to kowtow to our whimsical reader wants? Children will be ok. It’s not going to hurt them as much to see Harry Potter die as it would hurt them for their primary guardian to die, leaving them penniless with mean aunts and uncles. Rowling is amazing when she says:

“When fans accuse me of sadism, which doesn’t happen that often, I feel I’m toughening them up to go on and read John [Grisham] and Stephen’s [King] books,” she said. “I think they’ve got to be toughened up somehow. It’s a cruel literary world out there.”

I barely know her and yet I love her literary mind. If only the rest of the world could be so rational.

library
I know that there are many well intentioned people out there who genuinely believe that if they do their hardest to fight crime they can stop all bad things from happening in the world. The fact of the matter is you can’t. You can be prudent and you can be rational but that’s not going to stop the irrational and unexpected things of the world. Congress has introduced legislation to ban social sites from schools and libraries. Schools are one thing. At the elementary and high school level you should probably be doing schoolwork at school and not playing on the internet. I firmly believe that by banning these sites from the libraries they are being overzealous and reactionary instead of thoughtfully pragmatic. For some people, libraries are the only places they can go to access the internet. Are we really going to allow Congress to tell us that we can not check for messages from Friendster at the library? Education begins in the home. Parents need to talk to their children and educate them as to the proper behaviours on the internet. If they don’t know, the parents can enlist support from all those wonderful resources out there. Saying that one doesn’t know anything about the internet and then allowing their children to travel all over it unchecked is ludicrous. Take the time to talk to your children when they are young so that they grow up trusting you and make sure to always take an interest in what they are doing. But don’t prevent me from doing something because you can not take the time to talk to your kids.
Lastly, hoorah for the ultimate diet vaccine?!? Scientists are awesome. They have found a vaccine that prevents rats from gaining weight even when overeating. I think the best use of this is Thanksgiving time. Maybe Christmas. For the other 363 days a year. Please, eat in moderation.

PS for those of you who don’t know, one of the best “diet pills” are peppermints. Eating one will curb your appetite as well as help to wake you up. Pretty awesome, eh?
