I was reading an article today about Andrea Yates and her trial:
In both trials, Yates, 42, pleaded innocent by reason of insanity.Under Texas law, a person can be found insane if, because of a severemental illness, he or she does not know the crime is wrong.
The jury earlier asked to review the videotape of Yates’ July 2001evaluation by Dr. Phillip Resnick, a forensic psychiatrist who testified for the defense that she did not know killing the children was wrong because she was trying to save them from hell.
Resnick told jurors that Yates was in a delusional state and believed her children would grow up to be criminals because she had ruined them.
I am afraid that this might create some faulty logic…is he saying that if one believes their child is going to continue a life of crime and may burn in hell that it is alright to kill them? Interesting idea. I suppose that’s one way to keep your children from ruining the family name.
I must mull this over, more to come, later. I promise.

I suppose I won’t bother to disconnect. I mean you are in fact updating with the wonderous sounds of nerds discussing the latest and greatest in technology as well as scholarly Brits discussing the affairs of the world. Perhaps I will fall asleep tonight listening to that.

As I was reading THIS article, I happened upon the following paragraph:
I read someone somewhere commenting on the US-Mexico border fence that was being debated a while back, and this person said, “a 10 foot wall will just create a market for 12 foot ladders.” This is a pretty good way of phrasing the point that many problems that we might try to solve with technology are really economic problems. People don’t use P2P because they’re immoral, or uneducated about intellectual property rights, or because they just enjoy wading through a sea of bad rips, trojans, and disguised advertisements for porn; they use P2P because content is either too expensive, or because it comes burdened with so much onerous and restrictive DRM “protection” that they can’t enjoy it the way they want.
…I am glad to see someone has finally put it into writing. Now when do you think the cable companies are going to realize that this applies to them too? If they stop charging $100+/mos for cable perhaps the average Joe would stop stealing it from the rich guy next door…too bad the markets don’t work that way. But imagine if they did…
I find this article to be of grave social concern. When will the corporate world realize that the human was not designed to commute two hours, work four hours, mabye eat, work another four or five hours and then commute another two hours home? Such a lifestyle equals either a. no life or b. no sleep, both of which tend to make the human being cranky and depressive. I give you exhibit a - me. Perhaps at some point the corporate world will realize this and really buy into telecommuting, especially for industries where one does not meet with clients on a regular basis and when one is in the office their main task is surfing the web without getting caught. Just an idea. Perhap some day my dreams will come true, until then… catch me if you can.
